Here at Holly Hill Nursery, lunch times are part of the learning journey and we ensure this by offering a Family Style Dining Experience. This involves the staff eating the same lunch with the children while developing social skills, problem solving and shared thinking. We feel that this is a crucial time where children can learn skills for life as well as developing confidence, independence and self-esteem.

Our aims:

Our lunchtimes and mealtimes are a positive experience for all children. We ensure that all children have a healthy nutritionally balanced two course meal at lunchtimes.

Our children enjoy a sociable mealtime experience, where they learn manners and understand about the origins of food and how to eat a balanced diet.

We support mealtimes as a staff team daily, sitting and enjoying the food with them, nurturing them to become mannerly and to develop appropriate social skills.

Food is set out in serving dishes in the centre of the table where children help themselves with varying levels of support. Children select their food and have the opportunity to eat extra helpings if they wish.

Children eat in an unhurried environment eating and chatting at the table. All the children wait for each other before leaving the table. They are usually seated for around 20-30 minutes.

Children are encouraged to take turns in setting and clearing the tables, developing life skills and learning how to associate positive experiences with mealtimes.

Our food:

Our food is prepared by YMCA Walker Park Cafe who have a passion to deliver top quality food and who work in partnership with us to provide learning experiences about food. They have a 5* hygiene rating and all staff have food hygiene certificates.

The chefs and manager at the Cafe work with staff to produce a balanced menu for the children as well as introducing them to new foods.

We are passionate that all our children shouldn’t miss out on our special mealtimes. We support any children with food allergies, intolerances and religious dietary requirements by offering appropriate alternatives to our main menus.

We have a 4 week menu rota. Scroll down to view our menus.
